About MaterialCalc
MaterialCalc is a collection of free, browser-based calculators for home improvement and project material planning. The goal is to help homeowners, DIYers, and small contractors estimate concrete, gravel, mulch, paint, flooring, and similar project materials before calling a supplier or starting a job.
What MaterialCalc Does
The first calculator cluster covers concrete: slab volume in cubic yards and cubic meters, bag count for 40 / 50 / 60 / 80 lb bags, waste allowance, and material-only cost. Future clusters will add landscaping (gravel, mulch), painting, and flooring calculators.

How the Calculators Work
Every calculator runs entirely in your browser. The values you enter (length, width, thickness, waste, price) are never sent to a MaterialCalc server, never written to a database, and never associated with an account. MaterialCalc does not require you to register or sign in.
Estimates update live as you type. Switching between US and metric units converts the inputs you have already entered, so you can compare results in different unit systems without re-typing.
Where the Formulas Come From
The formulas behind MaterialCalc are standard volume, area, and unit-conversion equations used in residential construction estimating. Bag yields (approximately 0.30, 0.45, and 0.30, 0.375, 0.45, and 0.60 cubic feet for 40, 50, 60, and 80 lb bags respectively) follow common supplier specifications. Cubic-yard and cubic-meter conversions use 27 cubic feet per cubic yard and 35.31 cubic feet per cubic meter.
